Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses fine, medical-grade needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, encouraging skin repair and regeneration from within.

A single microneedling treatment can increase collagen production by up to 400%, producing a level of collagen comparable to what the skin would normally generate over the course of a year.

Microneedling is highly effective in improving:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne scarring

  • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone

  • Loss of firmness and elasticity

  • Stretch marks

This is a safe, non-ablative treatment, meaning it does not remove the surface layer of skin. As a result, it is gentler than many resurfacing treatments, with minimal discomfort, low risk and little downtime.

Microneedling at Base Skin Clinic begins with a thorough consultation to ensure the treatment is

suitable for your skin type and to answer all of your questions. The treatment itself takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your individual skin concerns and goals.

Most clients see significant improvement after 3-6 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Results continue

to improve as new collagen develops over several months. A maintenance treatment is recommended every 6 months.

A single session can also be a good

starting point to see how your skin responds.

Is microneedling painful?

Everyone's sensitivity is different but, typically, it is not painful. You may experience a slight prickling or tingling sensation.

How long do results last?

Results are long-lasting because they are driven by your skin's own collagen production. Most clients

maintain their results with 1–2 top-up sessions per year.

Is it suitable for all skin types?

Microneedling is suitable for most skin types. During your consultation, Claire will assess your skin to

confirm suitability and recommend the right approach.

Is microneedling safe during pregnancy?

Microneedling is generally not recommended during pregnancy as a precaution. Claire will always prioritise your safety and can advise alternative, pregnancy-safe treatments tailored to your needs.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

It is best to avoid active skincare ingredients such as retinoids or acids for 72 hours prior to your appointment. Arrive with clean skin where possible and I will guide you through everything during your consultation.

What after-care is required?

After your treatment, it is important to use high SPF daily, keep your skin well hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours to reduce irritation and avoid washing your face for at least 6 hours post treatment.
